The study of music and the role of drums in music has been a passion for Francis for many years. Since childhood, immersion in a very diverse range of music has helped form the basis of musical pursuits that took him through the University of Calgary Percussion dept, Jazz and Contemporary combo work at Mount Royal College, and digging into rock, celtic, jazz, latin, fusion, percussion ensemble, and orchestral study. Further, an exploration into more ‘avante garde’ styles and music that pushes the boundaries of what music can be and do, has had a profound effect on the diversity of material and ideas from which Francis draws to bring to his teaching work.
Francis has
been teaching and performing since 1990.
Originally
from London, Ont., Calgary has been home
since 1975.
Francis’ life
is ever-broadened and completed by his wife Michelle,
daughter Sage, and
sons Tristan and Cassady.

Lessons are taught in a balance of the student’s interests and skills with the rudiments, reading, technique and rhythmic theory needed to move forward in development. Projects and exercises are tailored for challenge, building the learning momentum.
*30, 45 and 60 minute lessons are available.
*45 minute lessons weekly are recommended for most.
PUSH THE LIMITS ! Analysis and interpretation is done with as much precision as we can apply, and on the flip side, lateral thinking is also applied to create something UNIQUE that wasn’t there before.
Creativity and problem solving are integral to broadening the mind and POTENTIAL in the student. Students are encouraged to work with many styles as DIVERSITY and FLEXIBILITY are keys to success. Bass, guitar and recordings are also used to put concepts into rhythm-section context. Recording/drum track projects give experience in preparing for the studio!
And then, what would it be without FUN?
Free with each lesson is good energy and a positive outlook!
